1970 Mercury Cougar

The Specs

The Story - by Russ

Since I had completed the 1962 Monza I was looking for my next project. A friend heard I was looking and offered a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR-7. It has not run for years. It has some body damage on the left side and front. It has rust damage in the bottom of the trunk. The engine does not run and the interior needs major upholstery work. It sounds like another major project. It does have a 351 Cleveland and all the bells and whistles. The great part about this project is that the starting price was right. The only cost was a few hours of work and a few gallons of gas to haul it home.

I've spent the last few months getting the engine completely overhauled. I sent in the block to be stripped and refinished, bought all new parts to rebuild the head, valves, etc. I decked it out with Edelbrock four barrel carb and custom valve covers and air filter. Recently, we dropped it into the car and now I'm getting it hooked up and building the exhaust.
